Healthy Hair Habits (H3)
The hair is one of those organs of our body
which has a lot do with our outlook. Everybody wants to have healthy, dark and
long hair. Many people feel depressed for lack of healthy hair.
The following are some proven hair habits which
help in restoring and maintaining hair.
Avoidance
of junk foods:
Junk foods are mostly carbonated foods
which damage the cell cycles of the body and cause multiple diseases including
hair loss.
Avoidance
of drinks (soft/hard):
The stored soft as well as hard drinks
contain the various flavours and alcohol which in Toto causes premature ageing,
premature greying of hair and induces hair loss/baldness.
Avoidance
of hair oil:
Contrary to the belief that hair oil is
essential for healthy hair, it has been proved that oil on head causes dandruff
and ultimately may induce hair fall! So, it is advised not to use hair oil for
males, females, young and old. At best some hair serums and hair oils can be
applied on the hair (not roots) as conditioner.
Regular
shampoo:
Regular shampoo will wash the darts and
grits from the hair roots and will prevent the formations of crusts as well as
dandruff. We advice males to go for daily shampooing and females to go for
alternate day.
Green
leafy vegetables:
These vegetables contain the essential
vitamins and amino acids required for healthy hair and cells in general.
Amla:
Amla contains a plenty of natural form of
Vitamin C (an anti-oxidant), which is non synthetic and readily gets absorbed
into our cells. The natural form of Vitamin C helps in proper growth and
maintenance of the hair. The fresh juice of 1 Amla daily, empty stomach in the
morning is very good to keep the immunity of the body thus helps in
regeneration of the damaged tissue. People consuming Amla juice regularly enjoy
healthy hair.
Elovera:
Fresh Elovera juice provides rejuvenation to
all the systems of the body including the skin and hair. It is also a natural
anti-oxidant. Every day 5 ml of fresh Elovera juice keeps the skin as well as
hair healthy and shiny.
Regular
Exercises:
Regular exercise keeps the metabolism under
action. So, all the cells in our body required for building any tissue,
regeneration and repair are active. All the essential building blocks of body
like aminoacids, vitamins and minerals get absorbed properly and gets utilised
properly with the help of regular excercises.
Exercise increases the general wellbeing so also the health of the hair.
Pranayam:
The meaning of Pranayam is control of
breath. Breath is link between body and life. If the breath is controlled
properly and regulated then it helps in the general well being as well as
longevity of a person.

How to select your hair restoration doctor?
It is very important to choose
the right doctor for hair transplant as it will decide the final outcome in
terms of natural looking, density and head
full transplanted hair for rest of your life!
The end result varies
depending upon the compassion, hard
work, talent, non-commercialness and one pointedness of the doctor.
Before finalising the doctor
one should study the following points:
1) A review of the patients who have undergone hair restoration by the doctor should be done. There should be many patients who are there to speak volumes for the doctor and their overall experience. The doctor/centre should be able to provide the contact details to the index patient.
The results
of his surgery should be analyzed based on the following criteria:
a. The hairline: should look totally natural. It should be M - shaped and the deepest points in both the corners should be aligned in the same plane as the outer angle of eye.
b. The hair in the frontal line should be arranged in a feathery pattern with less density in the front and more density in the deeper parts of hairline.
c. The angle at which the hair point forwards should vary between 10 to 15 degrees.
d. The curl of those hair should be in such a way that the concavity points downwards.
e. In the crown the hairs should be arranged in a whorled pattern with less density in the centre of the whorl and more density towards the periphery of the whorl.
f. There should not be any halo of baldness surrounding the whorl which renders an extremely bad look.
In the nutshell, nobody should be able to tell that the person had a hair transplant.
“Transplanted hair should look
Non-transplanted.”
2. There shouldn't be any elevation or depression at the base of new hair follicle.
3. The ability to provide
a good density.
4. The ability to perform
a large number of follicular unit grafts. This helps to provide a good density
in patients with partial baldness. And in other patients, with advanced grades
of baldness, it helps to provide coverage to the complete bald area.
The
doctor:
1. Should be well qualified with good practical experience in hair restoration.
1. Should be well qualified with good practical experience in hair restoration.
2. Ability to do both FUT
and FUE with great proficiency. It is advocated that in advanced stages of
baldness, a combination of both FUT and FUE, renders the best results.
3. It is
advisable that the doctor should also be trained in basic and advanced cardiac life support.
4. The doctor
should be able to tell the patient when not
to go for hair transplantation and other effective medicine programs to prevent
further hair loss. The doctor should have a holistic approach to treat the patients of hair loss. The doctor
should not push the patients for the
surgeries. Even though the patients are adamant for surgery, if there is no
scientific and ethical indication of the procedure then the doctor should be
able to resist that.
5. Full time vs Part time: Is the doctor
doing hair transplantation as solo practice? If he is also doing other cosmetic
surgeries then his focus and energy is diluted
and most likely he is not doing justice with hair transplantation.
6. The doctor should attend the national and international conferences and workshops. The ISHRS (International society of hair restoration surgery) is the largest and the most advanced society of hair restoration surgeons committed to physician training and patient education. It is also committed to research and defining the highest ethical standards in the hair restoration practice.
The centre:
1. The centre should be focused upon patient
care and not upon booking the
dates and number of patients per
month.
The
PHILOSOPHY of the centre should be:
Science...Ethics...Commerce, not the reverse.
2. Should be clean, tidy and hygienic with a pleasing ambience.
3. Should carry out
stringent measures for hospital infection control. Regular microbiological investigations
to detect the presence of any growth of micro organisms in the operation
room.
4. In the ideal
situation, the operation room should also have the facility of laminar flow.
5. The ideal hair
restoration operation theatre should be spacious with adequate lighting with LED lights.
6. There should be
adequate numbers of stereo microscopes.
7. The surgeon should use
high quality magnification in the
range of 4X to 6X.
8. The implantation
should be carried out using 'no root
touch' technology..
Why is there cost variation among different centres?
It's not that more the cost, the better the centre, but there are a lot of reasons of the cost variation.
Why is there cost variation among different centres?
It's not that more the cost, the better the centre, but there are a lot of reasons of the cost variation.
1. Some centres run a
chain of clinics and get the work done by hired
doctors/technicians. These clinics may provide good results at some centres
but not so well at the others, because of the difference in the training levels
of the surgeons/technicians.
2. Some centres have a
huge budget allocation for the marketing
and advertising. They tend to recover the cost from the patients
only.
3. The number of hair
transplantation technicians: Some centres hire part time technicians and tend
to provide inconsistent results
because of lack of dedication of part time technicians.
True and
False Claims in Hair Transplantation
Many
patients of ours ask every day about new things being claimed in hair industry
like 1) Hair duplication, 2) Stem cell hair regeneration, 3) Robotic hair
transplantation, 4) PRP Hair growth etc.
Being in this industry we can imagine the business compassion of many centres claiming a lot of things, most of them are not true and scientific.
Being
doctors, we believe that the scientific compassion should be more in the hair
industry than the business compassion. The doctors and the centres should only
educate the patients with right information about the scientific as well as
ethical aspects of hair transplantation.
Since
most of the patients of hair transplantation search internet for the information,
we thought to provide the most authentic source in internet for hair
transplantation.
Fortunately
for all the patients there is one site which is the online index book for all
the scientific publications all over the world. Only the authentic, original,
proven, scientific, which are already reviewed by the peer senior doctors and
scientists, and which are published in various scientific journals are enrolled
in this site. Someone can find by searching PUBMED in google. Once the PUBMED
home page is open in the search space one can put the subject he wants to know
like 1) Hair duplication, 2) Stem cell hair regeneration, 3) Robotic hair
transplantation, 4) PRP Hair growth, 5) FUE hair transplant, 6) FUT hair
transplant, 7) Direct Hair Transplant etc, with any permutation and combination
possible. Only science will be revealed in the search. Below is the link to
that site
Anyone
can browse the name of any doctor at this site to know the original research
work and scientific contribution of that doctor to the society.

Triggers of hair loss and Baldness
Genetically the active male hormone i.e DHT
(Dehydro Testosterone) has got the potential to make every male bald. That
means all the adult males are under the risk of baldness because the male
hormone is flowing in their blood!
If there is a strong family history of
baldness then the chances of becoming bald is more in the index person. Sadly,
the hormone which gives us all the desirable male qualities like beard, muscles and sex power also can cause
baldness which is not desirable.
Earlier the male pattern baldness used to
set around 25-30 yrs of age and sometimes as late as 40 years of age. Recently,
all over world it has been noticed that the age of onset of baldness has
reduced to 20 years of age and sometimes as early as 15 years. One month back we saw a child of 8 years and
he had all the signs of male pattern baldness!
The above three paragraphs tell that
baldness is as old as human origin. But recently the age of onset has reduced.
There are some proven and assumed factors which act as triggers for baldness.
The unhealthy life style which includes:
Lack of exercises
Lack of fresh air
Lack of fresh vegetables
Continuous sitting upon computers
Late night sleeping
Junk foods
Variety of drinks
Alcohol
Smoking
Adulterated stored/carbonated food
The above factors are supposed to induce
male pattern baldness. It is advised to avoid the above factors as much as
possible to prevent the early onset of baldness.
